info
Alexander Technique enables anyone to move with ease and minimal effort in all activities. It is taught in many performance schools and colleges, such as George Brown College in Toronto, which offers two leveled courses of Alexander Technique as part of its Theatre Arts Program.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are taught one on one. You can also book semi-private lessons for two people sharing the same slot of time.
Who comes for lessons?
Everyone can benefit from taking lessons. There are three main reasons for people to seek out Alexander Technique.
First, people who suffer from injury or pain may find the technique helpful in alleviating their pain and most times eliminating it if the cause is misuse (check the British Medical Journal video here).
Second, performers such as musicians, dancers, and actors as well as athletes benefit from learning the Alexander Technique in enhancing their skills and avoiding injury.
Lastly, people who look for ways to improve their health and overall well-being may find the technique useful in better understanding how they function.
What should I wear?
Students should wear comfortable clothes and socks; they are dressed at all times during their lessons.
What happens in a lesson?
Students are guided through verbal and tactile instructions to sense their current kinesthetic state, and they are encouraged to release unnecessary excess effort. Over time, students are expected to develop their kinesthetic sense and learn how to apply the principles of the technique to their daily activities.
How long is the lesson and how much does it cost?
A private lesson is one hour long, and the fee is $50 per lesson.
Group Workshops
Although Alexander Technique is best taught one on one, students may establish a good understanding of the technique through group workshops.
Group work can be fun and exciting. Also, learning in groups may help people develop their observation skills. Therefore, we offer introductory group workshops periodically.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
We are in the process of searching for a studio outside our home from which we will offer private lessons and workshops. Thus, we will not be able to schedule lessons for new students at the time being.
